Exploring Wilmington

The Longman Of Wilmington

Another one of my favourite local spots to just chill and explore. The walk up from the small carpark is great. It feels like the path to something magical.

There is lots of various theories about what the Longman represents, indeed if its a man at all. Who knows the truth? What do the "sticks" represent? How old is it? Lots of questions.

But I guess like most things, it's what it means to you that is important.

For me, its like a gateway, the threshold guardian. The walk to the top is definitely a trek and seems to just get steeper and steeper, testing your determination. At the told are views across Friston Forest, to the sea and across Sussex. It's awesome.... even more so in a thunderstorm! Though a little scary.

There is a sort of "bowl" up there to, you walk into it and inside it feels different... hard to explain. But its a great place to sit, to drum, to just be. Because its a depression, the edges kind of hide the view, so it feels like you are enclosed in your own little world. It's always an emotional experience.

Off there later for a ceremony, maybe I'll write that up at some point.

Keep walking.
